GILBERT, Ariz. – After a record-setting performance last week, senior Charlotte Veitner of the No. 1 UConn field hockey team (13-0) was pegged the Longstreth/ National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I Offensive Player of the Week, as announced on October 11.
This marks the third NFHCA honor of the season for Veitner, who was tabbed the national player of the week on Sept. 12 and Sept. 20. Additionally, Veitner garnered BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors on Monday, Oct. 9.
In a 2-0 weekend for the Huskies, the senior tallied 17 points (6g, 5a), for a conference leading 49 points (19g, 11a) in 12 games.
At the forefront of a record-setting afternoon, Veitner knocked in three goals and tallied four assists as UConn set a program-high in goals scored, defeating Villanova 12-0 on Friday. The forward's first tally in the tilt was one to remember as it etched her name into the top spot of the UConn record book, passing Lauren Henderson's 97 career goals. Against No. 14 Princeton, Veitner continued to be an offensive juggernaut for UConn as she tallied her fourth hat-trick, second of the weekend, of the season to seal the Huskies seventh top-20 victory of the season, 5-3.
After surpassing the program record of 97 goals, Veitner now holds UConn's top spot in points (268), goals (103) and assists (62).
UConn will wrap up its three-game road swing at Liberty on Saturday, October 14 in BIG EAST action. The game is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
