STORRS, Conn. - Junior back Rayell Heistand has been honored as the BIG EAST defensive player of the week, for her efforts in leading the University of Connecticut field hockey team to a spotless 2-0 week, as announced by the league on Monday.
Heistand earns the award for the fourth time in her career.
Heistand anchored a Husky defense that allowed only two goals in the two wins, which included a 4-0 shutout at Northeastern on Wednesday and a 4-2 victory over No. 4 Princeton on Sunday.
Heistand also got into the offensive attack as she tallied a total of two assists, including one each game. Heistand led the Huskies to their sixth shutout of the season on Wednesday and the team has allowed only 14 goals (.93 gpg) this season.
Heistand and the Huskies are back in action on Wednesday, October 20 when the team travels to Boston University to take on the Terriers. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
