STORRS, Conn. – Senior forward Marie Elena Bolles has been named Big East Offensive Player of the Week and sophomore defender Roisin Upton has been selected as the league’s Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the conference on Monday.  Bolles and Upton led the Huskies to a 2-0 week, including wins over No. 17 Temple and at Yale, and helped UConn clinch a share of its 13th Big East Regular-Season Championship.

Both Bolles and Upton haven now earned the award twice this season.

Bolles scored a career-high four goals in a 7-0 win over Temple, which secured a first-place tie for the Huskies in the BIG EAST. The Preseason BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year, Bolles was one goal shy of tying the school single-game record of five goals.

Upton anchored a Husky defense that did not allow a goal in a 2-0 week. She also helped offensively with two goals and three assists. UConn defeated Temple, 7-0, and Yale, 3-0, to complete regular-season play and clinch a share of its 13th BIG EAST regular-season crown.

The Huskies will now prepare to host the 2013 Big East Tournament at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.  UConn earned the No. 1 seed in next week’s tournament due to a goal differential tiebreaker.  The Huskies will square-off against No. 4 seed Temple on November 8 for the right to play in the Championship Final on November 10.
