STORRS, Conn. – On Sunday night’s NCAA Selection Show, the No. 4 UConn field hockey team found out it will play Boston College in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday in Syracuse, N.Y.
The Huskies (20-1, 7-0 Big East) will take on the Eagles for the second time in two weeks, following a 4-3 overtime victory in Chestnut Hill, Mass. on Oct. 30. Game time on Saturday is 2 p.m. (ET) at J.S. Coyne Stadium on the Syracuse campus.
Third-seeded Syracuse and Harvard will play in the early game on Saturday, and the winner will face the winner of the UConn-Boston College matchup on Sunday in the NCAA second round. Sunday’s winner goes to the Final Four in Norfolk, Va.
The Eagles (10-9, 3-3 ACC) lost to eventual ACC champion Virginia in the conference quarterfinals on Thursday, but hold wins this season over No. 5 North Carolina, No. 8 Louisville and No. 19 Wake Forest.
It will be the 28th NCAA Tournament appearance in UConn field hockey history. The last time the Huskies played the opening rounds in Syracuse, N.Y. was 2013 - which resulted in UConn's third-ever national championship.
Earlier in the day, UConn defeated Liberty, 3-2, to claim its fifth-straight Big East Tournament title and 16th overall under head coach Nancy Stevens. Sophomore Amanda Collins was named Most Outstanding Player of the tournament in Philadelphia, Pa.
