NEW YORK, N.Y.- The University of Connecticut field hockey team was featured in New York City’s Times Square after taking home its 12th BIG EAST Conference Championship. The No. 4 Huskies clinched the title last weekend after downing No. 3 Syracuse, 4-3, in the finals.
The Huskies, who enter NCAA Tournament play with an 18-2 overall record, earned an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament by virtue of winning their BIG EAST Tournament last weekend in Louisville, Ky.
UConn will host the First Round of the 2012 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship and will face Northeastern on Saturday, November 10 in Storrs, Conn. at 11:30 a.m. The winner of the UConn vs. No. 12 Northeastern contest will square-off against either No. 13 Lafayette or No. 6 Maryland on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Storrs with a berth in the NCAA National Semifinal on the line.
The Huskies are 14-3 all-time during NCAA Tournament play in Storrs. Last year, the team defeated Princeton and Penn State en route to earning its 10th appearance in the NCAA National Semifinal.
