No. 3 Field Hockey Set for Big East Tournament Final on Sunday

Head coach Nancy Stevens has led UConn to 13 total Big East tournament titles and nine since the 2000 season.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The No. 3 University of Connecticut field hockey team will compete for its third-straight Big East Tournament title when it takes on Temple on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I.

No. 4 Field Hockey Wins 2014 Big East Regular Season Crown
Freshman forward Charlotte Veitner (Dusseldorf, Germany) scored twice in the final five minutes of regulation to help the No. 4 University of Connecticut field hockey team to a dramatic 4-3 victory over Temple in the Huskies' season finale on Saturday at Geasy Field.

The Huskies advanced to the tournament final for the 13th-straight year with a 3-1 win over the Friars on Friday. Providence grabbed a 1-0 edge early in the second half but Connecticut responded with three unanswered goals to force a meeting with the Owls for the conference tournament crown.

UConn and Temple last met on Nov. 1 when the Huskies claimed the 2014 Big East regular season title after scoring twice in the final 4:18 to stun the Owls, 4-3. Overall, the Huskies are 6-2-1 all-time against their foes from Philadelphia.

Overall, UConn has won 13 Big East Tournament crowns under head coach Nancy Stevens, who has led her squad to back-to-back conference tournament titles in both the 2012 and 2013 seasons.Since the 2000 season, the Huskies have won nine league tournament titles.


 

 

A win would give UConn its 13th-straight NCAA Tournament berth via the league's automatic bid and 18th in the last 19 seasons.
