STORRS, Conn. - The No. 7 University of Connecticut field hockey team is set to defend its Big East Tournament crown on Sunday, November 10 when the Huskies take on fifth-ranked Old Dominion at 1 p.m. at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex in Storrs.
UConn, the No. 1 seed in the tournament, defeated No. 19 Temple by a 3-0 score on Friday evening to advance to its 12th consecutive Big East Tournament Final. The Huskies also improved to 21-3 all-time in the semifinal, including 17 straight.
Three Huskies recognized as All-Big East First Team selections on Thursday scored against Temple. Senior forward Anne Jeute netted her ninth goal of the year, sophomore defender Roisin Upton scored her 12th and junior forward Chloe Hunnable notched her team-leading 19th.
UConn improved to 16-4 overall on the year, including 7-3 against ranked competition.
ODU, the No. 2 seed in the tournament, enters the game with a 13-6 record and is riding a 12-game winning streak. The team is led by Rosario Villagra’s 14 goals and 13 assists and eight of its last 10 victories have come via a shutout.
UConn will be seeking its 13th Big East Tournament crown while the Lady Monarchs joined the league prior to the 2013 season.
