    NORFOLK, Va. - The women's field hockey team edged the Virginia Cavaliers, 2-1, in the first round of the NCAA Field Hockey Tournament on Saturday (Nov. 11) at Foreman Field on the campus of Old Dominion University. With the win, the Huskies improved to 17-6 while the Wahoos fell to 13-8.

    After a scoreless first half, Connecticut broke into the scoring column first. Junior forward Kelly Cochrane (Scarsdale, NY) connected with the back of the net on an Amy Herz (Willow Grove, Pa.) assist at the 26:45 mark. Virginia would strike next, tying the game at the 14:58 mark on a penalty corner goal. Katie Jo Gerfen (Lititz, Pa.) connected from Carrie Goodloe (St. Louis, Mo.) and Mason White (Virginia Beach, Va.). Freshman Amy Marland (Mt. Warrigal, Australia) netted the gamewinner for Connecticut with just over one minute to play.

    Connecticut will play #1 Old Dominion Sunday afternoon at 2 pm in the second round of the tournament. The game will be at Foreman Field.
