STORRS, Conn. – The NFHCA bestowed a No. 4 ranking on the Huskies in the final poll of the season. UConn climbed as high as No. 2 before falling back to a No. 7 ranking, upsetting No. 5 Old Dominion in the conference final to capture its 13th BIG EAST Championship. UConn has now claimed back-to-back BIG EAST field hockey titles.
The Huskies will put the new national ranking to the test in their 25th NCAA Tournament appearance on Saturday afternoon in Syracuse, N.Y. UConn will face No. 11 Boston College for a 2pm start while No. 2 Syracuse faces off against the winner of tonight’s matchup between Miami (OH) and No. 20 Michigan State.
UConn will look to avenge a regular season overtime loss to the Eagles after a 4-3 (OT) regular season decision. Chloe Hunnable, the BIG EAST Tournament Most Outstanding Player and UConn’s leading scorer with 45 points, was held scoreless in the setback back on Oct. 6. The Huskies are 12-1 this season when Hunnable finds the back of the net.
