STORRS, Conn. – Nearly two weeks after winning its fourth national championship, the University of Connecticut field hockey team was honored at Friday’s men’s basketball game at Harry A. Gampel Pavilion.
The Huskies, who defeated Syracuse, 1-0, on Nov. 23 to secure the 2014 national crown, made their way onto the court at the first media timeout of the second half. Fans were treated to a video recap of the title game before the team posed for photos at midcourt. Husky head coach Nancy Stevens was also honored with a framed picture celebrating her 400th win at UConn.
The 2014 crown marked UConn's fourth title (1981, 1985, 2013, 2014) and second under Stevens. The Huskies capped their incredible season with 14-straight wins and have won eight straight NCAA Tournament contests, hoisting two trophies in as many years. Overall, Connecticut owns a 37-22 (.627) mark in the national tournament and has won 24 of 41 tournament games since Stevens arrived to the Storrs campus prior to the 1990 season.
