The Huskies, who defeated Maryland, 2-1, on Nov. 19 became the first team in program history to complete a perfect season (23-0). With the NCAA trophy in hand, the team made its way onto the court during halftime for a special mid-game celebration. Fans were treated to a video recap of the title game before the team posed for photos at midcourt. UConn head coach Nancy Stevens addressed the crowd who gave the team a standing ovation for their tremendous accomplishment.
The 2017 crown marked UConn’s fifth title (1981, 1985, 2013, 2014, 2017) and third under Stevens. The Huskies capped their remarkable season as just the sixth team in NCAA field hockey history to turn in an undefeated season while capturing the programs’ sixth-consecutive BIG EAST Tournament Championship. Overall, Connecticut owns a 45-24 mark in the NCAA tournament and has made 13 NCAA Final Four appearances since Stevens arrived to campus prior to the 1990 season.
