STORRS, Conn. – The University of Connecticut women’s ice hockey team dropped a non-conference contest to Princeton, 5-1, at the Freitas Ice Forum on Wednesday night.

The Tigers (6-10-2) gained the first lead of the night when senior Kelly Cooke took a breakaway one-on-one all the way for her 11th goal of the season at the 8:58 mark.  UConn (3-14-2) answered at 13:43 when freshman Michela Cava (Thunder Bay, Ont.) netted her team-leading eighth goal of the season.  Cava forced a turnover in the neutral zone and fed sophomore Sarah MacDonnell (Quispamsis, Que.) in the high slot, who fed it back to Cava for the score.

Princeton went back on top just 4:08 into the second when senior Corey Stearns, assisted by sophomore Brianne Mahoney and freshman Molly Contini, found the back of the net.  The Connecticut penalty kill held the Tigers scoreless on three power play chances in the period.

The Huskies had an opportunity to tie the game at two with less than eight minutes to play when Campero went in uncontested on a fast break, while shorthanded, but was denied by sophomore goaltender Ashley Holt.

The Tigers added to their lead late in the third with goals by Contini and an empty net score by Stearns.

Holt made just 17 saves for her first career win, while junior Sarah Moses (New Hamburg, Ont.) made 27 saves for UConn.  For Moses, it was her first start since November 10 at Providence.

The Huskies return to action next Tuesday, January 8 when they host Boston University for a Hockey East tilt at 7:00 pm.
