CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. The University of Connecticut women’s ice hockey team was swept in its weekend series with No. 6 Boston College following a 6-2 road defeat in Hockey East action on Sunday afternoon.

The game was scoreless for the first 13 minutes of play before the Eagles got on the board with a goal by freshman Alex Carpenter.  After Carpenter’s 16th goal of the season, the flood gates opened and BC poured in three more goals in the two minutes and 20 seconds.  Senior Danielle Welch, sophomore Taylor Wasylk and freshman Kate Leary all scored in succession to give Boston College a 4-0 lead after the first frame.

UConn ended a drought for either side with just 12 seconds left in the second period when senior defenseman Sami Evelyn (Nepean, Ont.) netted her sixth goal of the season, assisted by junior defenseman Maude Blain (Magog, Que.) and freshman Emily Snodgrass (Eagan, Minn.).  For Snodgrass, it was her team-leading 20th point of the season.

With momentum on their side, the Huskies cut the lead to two 22 seconds into the third period.  Redshirt-sophomore defenseman Maggie Walsh (Bloomfield, Conn.) lit the lamp for the fourth time this season with an unassisted power play score.

The Eagles added some insurance with Wasylk’s second goal of the game and a power play goal added by freshman Emily Field, her second of the weekend.

Senior Alexandra Garcia (Point-Claire, Que.) stopped 35 shots for Connecticut (4-21-7, 3-13-3 HE).  In net for Boston College (21-8-3, 13-4-3), senior Corrine Boyles made 26 saves.

The Huskies wrap up the 2011-12 regular season with a home-and-home series against Boston University next weekend.  UConn hosts BU for “Senior Day” at 2:00 pm on Saturday at the Freitas Ice Forum.
