STORRS, Conn. – The University of Connecticut women’s ice hockey team lost to No. 10 Northeastern, 4-0, at the Freitas Ice Forum on Tuesday night. The game was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday, February 9, but was postponed due to a blizzard that hit New England.
Northeastern (19-10-2, 11-7-1) took a 2-0 lead before the first intermission on goals by freshman Paige Savage and sophomore Kendall Coyne before the midway point of the period. The two teams played even the rest of the frame with NU outshooting UConn, 14-11.
Connecticut (3-26-3, 1-17-1) held Northeastern to just one goal in the third despite being outshot 20-8 for the period as freshman goaltender Elaine Chuli (Waterford, Ont.) stopped 19 shots. NU broke through on a goal by senior Casey Pickett at the 13:36 mark.
Northeastern scored again midway through the third when sophomore Colleen Murphy knocked in a rebound that bounced off the chest of Chuli.
For the game, Chuli totaled 42 saves, while sophomore Chloe Desjardins made 26 in the shutout for NU. Northeastern outshot Connecticut, 46-26.
The Huskies return to action on Saturday at Boston University followed by “Senior Day” at home on Sunday against the Terriers at 2:00 pm.
