CANTON, N.Y. - The University of Connecticut women's ice hockey team played to a 3-3 tie at Clarkson in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon. The Huskies record moved to 0-2-2, while the Golden Knights are now 1-1-2. The two teams traded scores throughout the game, with UConn holding a lead on three different ocassions.
The Huskies led 3-2 with less than eight minutes to play until Clarkson junior Danielle Skirrow notched her second power play goal of the game at the 12:51 mark to score the game-tying goal and eventually send the game to overtime.
Connecticut took the lead with thefirst goal of the game coming off the stick of senior Sami Evelyn (Nepean, Ont.) just 1:04 into thegame. Clarkson tied thegame with less than four minutes left on the clock in the first when freshman Christine Lambert put thepuck into the back of the net.
In the second quarter, freshman Emily Snodgrass (Eagan, Minn.) netted the first goal of her career at the 3:21 mark on a UConn power plays. Junior forward Kelly Horan (Methuen, Mass.) tallied her team-leading third assist of the season on the play. The Golden Knights came back with a power play score of their own as Skirrow scored her first goal of the game. The Huskies took their final lead of the game at the 16:32 mark of the second with a goal from sophomore Jocelyn Slattery (Hugo, Minn.).
Senior Alexandra Garcia (Point-Claire, Que.) made her second start in net for UConn and made a season-high 38 saves, while sophomore goaltender Erica Howe turned away 21 shots for Clarkson. Garcia has posted a tie in each of her two starts this season.
The Huskies return to action next weekend as they host No. 7 Minnesota-Duluth at the Freitas Ice Forum on October 14 and 15.
