ORONO, Me. – The University of Connecticut women’s ice hockey team dropped a Hockey East match-up at Maine, Sunday afternoon, 3-2.  The Huskies fell to 1-5-1 overall and 1-1-0 in league play, while the Black Bears picked up their first win to move to 1-3-0 and 1-1-0.

Sophomore Caitlin Hewes (Stillwater, Minn.) netted a power play goal at the 11:45 mark of the first to give UConn its only lead of the game.  Maine answered with all three of its goals before the first intermission.

Brianne Kilgour tied that game at 14:26 and gave the Black Bears the lead at 18:15.  The eventual, game-winning goal was scored by Brittany Dougherty with just 16 seconds left in the period.

After a scoreless second period, the Huskies cut the lead in half with just over a minute to play in the game when freshman Michela Cava (Thunder Bay, Ont.) scored her third goal of the weekend.

Junior Sarah Moses (New Hamburg, Ont.) made 34 saves in net for Connecticut, while Brittany Ott stopped 25 in the win for Maine.

The Huskies return home next weekend to play their first game of the year in the Freitas Ice Forum at 7:00 pm on Friday, October 26 against Syracuse.
