STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's ice hockey team fell in a Hockey East shootout for the second time this season suffering a loss to Providence at Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum. Sophomore Alexandra Garcia (Pointe-Claire, Que.) made 23 saves in the 1-1 tie on Sunday evening.

Providence's Genevieve Lacasse made 29 saves and stopped one of the Huskies' three shootout attempts to secure the conference victory. Senior Amy Hollstein (Pembroke, Mass.) and freshman Maude Blain (Magog, Que.) each scored in the shootout while Jessica Cohen scored the game-winning shootout goal.

Cohen and Lauren Covell assisted Laura Veharanta's goal at 7:24 in the second period for the 1-0 edge. Neither team scored in the first 20 minutes of play although the Huskies had an advantage in shots, 11-6.

Junior Brittany Murphy (Tewksbury, Mass.) tied the game with her third of the season. With less than two minutes remaining in the second period, Murphy tied the game, 1-1, with an assist from Blain.

For the first time in the contest, the Friars outshot the Huskies (11-6) in the third period. Neither team was able to find the back of the net, forcing UConn to enter its second overtime game of the season.

Connecticut had a pair of opportunities in the overtime period while the Friars forced Garcia to make just a single save. The Huskies had an advantage in shots in the game, 30-24. It was not enough as they fell in a shootout 3-2 for the second time this season.
