BURLINGTON, Vt. – The UConn women’s hockey team was topped 6-0 by Vermont on Sunday afternoon at Gutterson Fieldhouse. The loss drops the Huskies to 2-5-4 on the year and 0-1-1 in Hockey East play, while the Catmounts move to 6-2-1 and 1-0-0 in league action.

Vermont out-shot UConn 42-19 on the day, using a pair of second period goals and a four-goal third to power its way to victory. Elaine Chuli (Waterford, Ontario) made 36 saves for UConn, while UVM’s Madison Litchfield recorded a 19-save shutout. UConn did not convert on the game’s lone power play opportunity.

For UConn, Rebecca Fleming (Newton, Mass.) led the way with five shots on goal and Emily Snodgrass (Eagan, Minn.) fired four. Fleming also went 8-of-13 in the faceoff dot in the setback.

After a scoreless first period, Vermont got on the board 47 seconds into the second frame with a Sarah Kelly goal. Not four minutes later, Dayna Colang connected for the Catamounts with a goal at 4:45 of the frame to give UVM a 2-0 lead.

Vermont took its two-goal lead to the second intermission, before an explosive four-goal third period. Klara Myren got the scoring started in the frame with a goal at 2:39, before Taylor Willard stretched the lead to 4-0 at 5:21. The lead went to five with a Sarah Campbell goal at 11:09, and Brittany Zuback capped the scoring with a goal at 12:32 of the period.
