STORRS, Conn. -- After stopping 33-of-34 shots in an overtime loss on Friday, UConn women's hockey goaltender Elaine Chuli (Waterford, Ontario) has been named Hockey East Defensive Player Of The Week, the league announced on Monday (Jan. 6) night. It is the second time Chuli has earned the honor this season.
Chuli's second weekly award from the conference comes following her finest performance of the season on Jan. 3 at Princeton, saving the first 33 shots she faced until an overtime winner and finishing the day with a .971 save percentage.
The award for the sophomore marks the third Defensive Player Of The Week Honor for UConn this year, and the sixth overall conference honor. Chuli won the same award on Sept. 30 after making 43 saves vs. Union on Sept. 28, before fellow netminder Sarah Moses (New Hamburg, Ontario) picked up the honor on Oct. 28. Rachel Farrel (Cheshire, Conn.) and Michela Cava (Thunder Bay, Ontario) were named Warrior Hockey East Player Of The Week on Sept. 30 and Dec. 2, respectively, and UConn was named Team Of The Week on Oct. 28.
Chuli and the Huskies return to Freitas Ice Forum for the first time since late November on Tuesday night when they welcome the No. 5/4 Harvard Crimson to Storrs. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
