Jan. 12, 2009

STORRS, Conn. - After downing the previously ranked No. 9 Boston University on Saturday, the University of Connecticut women's ice hockey teams slips in to the Division I Poll at number 10.

The Huskies (14-6-2, 7-4-0) are in the midst of an eight-game winning streak that started on Nov. 25 with a 4-0 victory over Brown. During the stretch, UConn has won four games over nationally-ranked opponents, including two Hockey East games against Boston College (Jan. 5) and Boston University (Jan. 10).

Connecticut had been receiving votes the last few weeks and received 23 this week to earn the No. 10 ranking.

For the first time this season, Wisconsin fell from the No. 1 spot to No. 2 and Minnesota took the top spot with 143 votes.

UConn faces its ninth nationally ranked opponent in No. 4 Mercyhurst (14-4-0, 4-0-0) for a two-game series this weekend. The Huskies' first game against the Lakers is set for a 7 p.m. start on Friday at Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum. Saturday's game is a matinee set to begin at 4 p.m.
