STORRS, Conn. –
The UConn women’s ice hockey team will host Northeastern for its Hockey East Skating Strides game Friday, Jan. 20 at the Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum. The Huskies will be sporting their pink jerseys on Friday against NU.

Fans are encouraged to wear pink to Friday’s game to support the cause. Commemorative Skating Strides merchandise will be on sale Friday along with a pink pom-pom giveaway. A rally towel will also be given out to the first 100 fans in attendance.

The Huskies (11-10-3, 6-7-1 WHEA) are looking to bounce back after being swept by Providence in a home-and-home series last weekend. After UConn tied the game up 2-2 in the third, PC claimed a 5-2 win over the Huskies with three goals in the last five minutes.

The Friars followed that up with a 4-1 win on their home ice the following day. UConn captains, senior Jessica Stott (Niverville, Manitoba) and junior Justine Fredette (Winnipeg, Manitoba), both earned two points in the series against PC.

UCONN LEADERS
1. Leah Lum – 19 points (11g, 8a)
2. Theresa Knutson – 17 points (8g, 9a)
3. Briana Colangelo – 17 points (6g, 11a)

The Husky foes met earlier this month on Jan. 2 at Freitas. Similar to game-one against Providence, UConn tied the game up 2-2 early on in the third period, but ultimately fell short of NU 4-2 in the end. Freshman Briana Colangelo (Whitby, Ont.) and junior Theresa Knutson (Onalaska, Wis.) took credit for UConn’s goals.

SKATING STRIDES

Over the past month, the UConn Women's Hockey team along with the ZBT Fraternity have been working together in the fight against breast cancer. As part of Hockey East's Skating Strides initiative, the Huskies have been involved in numerous fundraising efforts.

The team recently hosted their annual Skating Strides Youth Clinic on Monday, Jan. 16, which hosted youth hockey players from around the area who took part in training with the team. In addition, the team and ZBT have been selling commemorative Skating Strides t-shirts and jerseys at each game and around campus.

At each game, fans have been taking part in our $1 Chuck-A-Puck fundraising promotion. After tomorrow's game, a silent auction will be held at the men's hockey game on February 4, 2017. All proceeds raised during this initiative will go to the Friends of Mel Foundation.
