STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women’s ice hockey team will take on No. 9 Princeton Monday, Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. in its first match-up with the non-conference Tigers this season.
The Huskies are currently 9-11-5 overall with a 5-8-3 showing in Hockey East games. UConn is coming off two losses to No. 6 Northeastern this past weekend and will play its third game in four days against a ranked opponent on Monday.
Sophomores Theresa Knutson (Onalaska, Wis.), Justine Fredette (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and Leah Lum (Richmond, B.C.) currently stand atop UConn’s leader board. Knutson and Fredette are both tied at 21 points, followed by Lum with 13.
No. 9 Princeton currently holds a 15-4-1 overall record and a 9-4-1 ECAC record. The Tigers are currently riding a 10-game win streak, six of which came on their home ice. Despite their double-digit win streak, the Tigers have not seen on-ice game action since January 9.
Freshman Karlie Lund leads Princeton with 27 points (11g, 16a) followed by juniors Kelsey Koelzer with 20 points (12-8) and Molly Contini with 16 (5g, 11a).
UConn trails Princeton in the all-time series 2-9-2. The Huskies and the Tigers last met in the 2013-14 season for a two-game series on Jan. 2 and Jan. 3, 2014. Despite losing to Princeton 4-1 on Jan. 2, UConn held Princeton to a scoreless game, but fell short of the Tigers 1-0 in overtime in game-two.
The Huskies hit the road for two away games against Vermont on Friday, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 30 at 4 p.m. at Gutterson Field House in Burlington, Vt.
