Huskies Hold On For 3-2 Win Over Brown

STORRS, CT (February 1) – Jill VanDam (Port Perry, Ontario) continued to shine for the Huskies this weekend, as she scored the game winner for the University of Connecticut women’s ice hockey team in a 3-2 win over Brown on Saturday. On Thursday, VanDam notched two goals in a 5-1 win against the Quinnipiac Bobcats.  The Huskies improve to 9-14-4 as Brown falls to 8-8-4.

Sara Mahoney (Lynn, MA) got UConn on the board just 1:54 into play when she backhanded the puck from the faceoff circle to the left of Katie Germain. Mahoney’s shot slipped past Germain for the only goal of the period.

The Huskies pulled ahead, 3-0, in the second with goals by Kim Berry (Haverhill, MA) and VanDam. Berry was waiting at the doorstep as Megan McLeod (Livonia, MI) fired the initial shot at Germain. VanDam scored her third goal of the weekend also off the rebound. Mahoney notched two assists on the pair of goals. The Bears then took a timeout and made a goalie change to revitalize the team. Brown scored two goals within six minutes of the change to end the period, 3-2. Jessica Link scored as UConn goaltender Shannon Murphy (Mapleville, RI) was diving for the save. Keaton Zucker got her goal after the Bears completed a series of passes in front of Murphy.
