Wilson Needs Votes to Participate in NCAA Frozen Four Skills Challenge

Feb. 6, 2009

STORRS, Conn. - Senior Brittany Wilson (Nepean, Ont./Ottawa Inter. AA) is one of four goaltenders contending for a spot in the NCAA Frozen Four Skills Challenge. Wilson is vying to become one of the two goalies on the eight person East Team. The NCAA announced that online voting has begun and will go through Feb. 18.

Fans are able to select six position players and two goalies of each gender for each regional team. An original list of 140 players was narrowed to the 68 remaining by a selection committee. Those interested can support their favorite student-athlete by voting for those who will fulfill the final spots on each team. The final rosters will be announced at the end of February.

January's ITECH Goaltender of the Month, Wilson earned the 50th win of her career against Providence (Feb. 1) with 24 saves against the Friars. She has recorded five shutouts this season, matching her career-high total of five in 2007-08 season. Wilson has a 1.74 goals-against average (GAA) overall and a 1.45 GAA against Hockey East opponents.

Wilson's GAA is eighth in the nation and her save-percentage (.930) is 10th among NCAA Division I women's ice hockey netminders. Her record is 14-5-1 in 2008-09 gives her the seventh best winning percentage (.763).

The Frozen Four Skills Challenge will be part of the "Friday Night at the Frozen Four" event on April 10 at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.

A consistent force in the crease, Wilson and the University of Connecticut women's ice hockey team (18-8-2, 10-5-0) face Boston University at 7 p.m. on Friday at Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum.
