STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women’s hockey team will play its final two home games of the regular season this weekend when the Huskies host the Maine Black Bears on Friday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. and again on Saturday, Feb. 13 for Senior Day, where Huskies will honor their seven seniors prior to start of the game.
UConn is currently 12-13-5 overall and 8-9-3 in Hockey East play. The Huskies are coming off a 1-1 weekend of conference match-ups after they fell short of No. 1 Boston College 5-4 on Saturday and then defeated Providence 3-1 on Sunday.
Sophomores Theresa Knutson (Onalaska, Wis.), Justine Fredette (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and Leah Lum (Richmond, B.C.) currently stand atop of the UConn leaderboard. Knutson leads the team with 24 points (15g, 9a) closely followed by Fredette with 23 (7g, 16a) and Lum with 18 (8g, 10a).
Senior goaltender Elaine Chuli (Waterford, Ont.) has started the last four games in goal for the Huskies. She has seen action in over 1124 minutes this season, recording 693 saves for a .939 save percentage and a 2.40 goals against average.
Maine currently holds a 10-19-2 overall record with 6-15-1 showing in the conference. The Black Bears are coming off a two-game sweep against Merrimack, after defeating the Warriors 4-0 on Saturday and 1-0 on Sunday.
Senior Audra Richards currently leads the Black Bears with 21 points (13g, 8a), followed by sophomore Brooke Stacey with 18 points (9g, 9a) and freshman Alyson Matteau with 10 (5g, 5a).
Senior goaltender Meghann Treacy has seen over 1557 minutes in net for the Black Bears, stopping 782 pucks for a .924 save percentage and a 2.47 goals against average.
UConn leads the all-time series with Maine 26-14-7. The Huskies and the Black Bears met on one occasion earlier this season in November of 2015, where UConn pulled out a 2-0 win on the road at Alfond Arena. Senior Leah Buress (Windsor, Ont.) scored first for the Huskies and freshman Kayla Mee (Winnipeg, Manitoba) tallied her first career goal to seal it 2-0 in the third. Chuli recorded 38 saves for her third shutout of the season.
The Huskies will play their last two games of the regular season on the road against UNH Saturday, Feb. 20 and Sunday, Feb. 21. Both games are scheduled for a 2 p.m. start time at the Whittemore Center in Durham, N.H.
