WAKEFIELD, Mass. - For the second time this season, UConn women's hockey goaltender Annie Belanger has been named Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week. The league made the announcement this afternoon.
Belanger (Sherbrooke, Quebec) made 48 saves in a 2-2 tie against Northeastern on Feb. 15, setting a new career-high. Her previous high-mark was 41 against No. 1 Boston College on Nov. 22. Allowing two goals in the overtime contest, she recorded a 1.85 GAA and .960 save percentage to help UConn to a crucial Hockey East point.
Overall this season, Belanger holds a 3-6-3 record with a 2.65 GAA and a .926 save percentage in 14 appearances, including 12 starts. She currently ranks third in Hockey East and 17th nationally in save percentage. In her six outings since the winter break, Belanger holds a 2-1-1 record with a 1.71 GAA and a .957 save percentage.
Belanger's weekly award is the sixth for a Husky this season, with fellow netminder Elaine Chuli (Waterford, Ontario) previously taking home four Defensive Player of the Week nods.
The Huskies return to action this weekend for a two-game set at Maine. Puck drop from Alfond Arena in Orono is set for 2 p.m. on both Feb. 21 and 22.
