STORRS, Conn. –
Setting out on its fifth-consecutive Hockey East postseason tournament appearance, the UConn women’s ice hockey team has the rival Huskies of Northeastern in its sights as they will play a best-of-three series at Matthews Arena, beginning Friday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m.

The seventh-seeded Huskies closed out the 2016-17 regular season with back-to-back losses to New Hampshire last weekend at the Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum, putting UConn 14-16-4 overall with a 9-13-2 conference slate. The No. 2 seeded host, Northeastern is 19-11-3 overall heading into the quarterfinal series with a 14-8-2 league record.

The rival Huskies met on three occasions this season and UConn went 0-3 against Northeastern during the regular season. Connecticut and Northeastern will come together for the fourth time in the WHEA quarterfinals. UConn surpassed NU in 2010, while Northeastern came out on top in 2011 and 2014.

After upsetting conference front-runner, Boston College 2-1 on Feb. 10, the NU Huskies closed out their season with a 7-2 loss to Boston University the following Friday. Northeastern has not lost in the WHEA quarterfinal round since falling to UConn in 2010. Since then, the Huskies have advanced at least as far as the WHEA semifinals in every season.
