WAKEFIELD, Mass. - UConn women's ice hockey goaltender Elaine Chuli has been named Women's Hockey East Association Goalie of the Month for February, the league announced on Tuesday (March 3). The award is the sixth league honor for Chuli this season and her second career monthly laurel, also taking home WHEA Goalie of the Month in January 2014.
Overall in her career, Chuli (Waterford, Ontario) has now received 12 separate accolades from Hockey East, including an honorable mention All Star nod at the conclusion of last season. She is a five-time Defensive Player of the Week in 2014-15, winning her most recent weekly laurel earlier this week.
In the month of February, Chuli made seven starts and recorded a 4-2-1 record with a 2.43 GAA and a .930 save percentage. She has backstopped the Huskies to back-to-back road sweeps over the last four contests, holding a 1.18 GAA and a .964 save percentage in those contests.
Most recently, Chuli recorded a 45-save shutout to clinch a WHEA Quarterfinal series in a 1-0 overtime victory at Maine on Feb. 28. It was Chuli's first shutout of the season and the third of her career. She also recorded 40-plus saves in February on Feb. 21 at Maine and Feb. 8 at New Hampshire.
Overall on the year Chuli holds a 2.95 GAA and a .922 save percentage, good for third in Hockey East and 20th nationally. She has recorded 50 or more saves on four separate occasions, tying the UConn single-game record with 55 stops on Jan. 10 vs. Vermont. Chuli holds four of the five highest single-game save totals in program history and recently became Connecticut's all-time leader in total saves with 2,444.
Chuli and the Huskies return to the ice on Saturday, March 7 in the Women's Hockey East Championship Semifinals in Hyannis, Mass. The five-seed Huskies take on top-seed and No. 1 Boston College at 1:30 p.m. from Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Memorial Rink. For championship and ticket information, clickHERE.
