CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (March 11, 2005) - University of Connecticut forward Jaclyn Hawkins (Manotick, Ont.) was recognized numerous times at the conference banquet on Friday afternoon, earning Hockey East Rookie of the Year, Second Team All-Hockey East and All-Rookie team honors. Sophomore Natalie Vibert (Thunder Bay, Ont.) was selected First Team All-Hockey East, and junior goaltender Kaitlyn Shain (Calgary, Alberta) was named to the Second Team.
Hawkins had a record-breaking season in her first year at UConn. She set new school records for goals in a season (24) and points in a season (37) while leading the Huskies in both categories. Hawkins also took the Hockey East goal-scoring crown with a league-high 18 goals in 18 conference games.
Vibert received her second all-conference selection after being named to the All-Rookie team last season. She anchored the UConn defense, playing significant minutes on the power play and penalty kill while leading all Husky blueliners with seven goals and nine assists for 16 points to rank fifth on the team in scoring.
Shain backstopped Connecticut to its best year ever, registering an 11-7-4 overall record and 9-3-3 mark in Hockey East games. She stopped 623 of 672 shots for a .927 save percentage. Shain also registered two shutouts with a 2.17 goals-against-average.
Tenth-ranked Connecticut will compete in the Hockey East Tournament on Saturday, March 12. The No. 3 seed Huskies face No. 2 New Hampshire at 3:00 p.m. in the second semifinal game at Boston Universitys Walter Brown Arena.
