2010-11 Connecticut Women's Ice Hockey Schedule | 2010-11 Schedule for Outlook
STORRS, Conn. - Head coach Heather Linstad announced the 2010-11 University of Connecticut women's ice hockey schedule on Wednesday. The schedule features 21 Hockey East Conference games and a two-game non-conference matchup against powerhouse Minnesota-Duluth in October.
The Huskies open up the season with a conference game against New Hampshire on Saturday, Oct. 2. This is the second-straight season that the Huskies will open up with a conference game against the Wildcats, having traveled to start the year in Durham, N.H. a season ago.
Connecticut returns to the road to play a two-game series at 2010 NCAA Champion Minnesota-Duluth on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 23 and 24. This is the first meeting between the two programs and marks the seventh game against a member of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. UConn is a combined 7-13-5 after taking on six different WCHA opponents since the 2001-02 season. The series against the Huskies is the lone non-conference meeting for the five-time national champion squad.
Quinnipiac hosts the 2010-11 edition of the Nutmeg Classic on Nov. 26-27 in Hamden, Conn. The Huskies open the tournament against the Bulldogs of Yale, looking toward their unprecedented fourth-consecutive Nutmeg Classic Championship. UConn won the 2007 Nutmeg Classic over Yale when the Bobcats hosted the tournament at the TD Banknorth Sports Center.
For the first time since a season-ending loss to the Terriers, the Huskies face Boston University on Dec. 4 at Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum. It is the seventh of 15 home games for UConn, including a season-long four-game stretch in Storrs, hosting Robert Morris and Vermont for a pair of games each in mid-January.
Prior to the homestand in January, UConn hits the road for a Hockey East match-up at Providence on Dec. 5 and continues its series with Union after winning the first-ever meeting on Oct. 24, 2009 at Freitas.
Following the break for the Holidays and final exams, the Huskies start the New Year with a stretch of tough non-conference games at Dartmouth and against Robert Morris. Both opponents mark the second-consecutive season UConn will take on the Ivy League and College Hockey America foe, respectively.
The January 9 contest against the Colonials not only caps off a two-game series, it marks the end of the non-conference portion of the Huskies' regular season slate. A pair of home games against Vermont marks the commencement of 12-consecutive Hockey East games for UConn. For the second-consecutive year, the Huskies conclude the regular season at home with Northeastern for Senior Day. The 1 p.m. match-up against the other Huskies will be the final home game of the regular season for the 2011 senior class.
Should the Huskies capture their fourth-consecutive Hockey East Tournament berth, quarterfinals are scheduled for Feb. 26 at campus sites with the higher seed hosting. The Hockey East Championship weekend is set for March 5 and 6 at the highest seed.
