Garcia Leads Pack of 12 Huskies on WHEA All-Academic Team

WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Hockey East announced its academic awards for the 2011-12 season and 12 Connecticut women’s ice hockey players were named to the WHEA All-Academic Team.  Alexandra Garcia was honored as a Distinguished Scholar and was also named the goaltender on the Academic All-Star Team.

Garcia earned the title of Distinguished Scholar for maintaining a 3.0 or higher grade point average in each semester during her four varsity seasons with the Huskies.  She also made her way on to the Academic All-Star Team due to having the highest GPA at her position.  For her career, Garcia finished with a 3.93 GPA.

Along with Garcia, 11 other players were named to the Hockey East All-Academic Team.  Rebecca Hewett and Maggie Walsh each earned their third such honor, while Sami Evelyn and Jocelyn Slattery made the All-Academic Team for the second time in their careers.

Casey Knajdek, Kiana Nauheim, Carli Pridmore and Jenna Welch were among the upperclassmen on the academic team, while rookies Caitlin Hewes, Sarah MacDonnell and Emily Snodgrass were also first time academic team members.
