STORRS, Conn. -
University of Connecticut head women's ice hockey coach Heather Linstad announced the 2010-11 team captains at the team's banquet. Jody Sydor (St. Alberta, Alta.) will wear the "C" for the Huskies while classmates Jennifer Chaisson (Cumberland, Ont.) and Brittany Murphy (Tewksbury, Mass.) will be assistant captains.
Sydor is the second-consecutive lone captain for the Huskies and was an assistant captain as a junior during the 2009-10 season. She is the first defenseman to serve as the team captain since Bridget King did so during the 2007-08 season alongside Jaclyn Hawkins. Sydor is the second assistant captain to obtain the captaincy the following season.
She was a Hockey East Honorable Mention and represented Connecticut at the WHEA All-Star Game against Team USA. Sydor finished the season among the team leaders with 10 assists and a +14. She scored both of her goals on the power play in the 2009-10 season.
Chaisson was the Hockey East's Inaugural Best Defensive forward and will serve as one of two assistant captains for the Huskies as a senior. She led the team in scoring against conference opponents in the 2009-10 season and was third overall with 25 points.
Responsible for three game-winning goals throughout the season, Murphy finished the year with six goals and 10 assists. She scored the game-winning goal in the Huskies' Hockey East Tournament Quarterfinal win over Northeastern. Murphy's 16-point total was a single-season career high as she looks to build upon her junior season momentum as an assistant captain.
The Huskies open the year with a three-game homestand, starting with an Oct. 2 season-opening game against New Hampshire at 1 p.m. UConn continues with a pair of non-conference opponents the following weekend against Clarkson and St. Lawrence.
