Lersch Named WHEA Academic All-Star, Highlights 11 On All-Academic Team

Alexandra Lersch holds a 3.97 GPA after one season in Storrs

WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Freshman Alexandra Lersch (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) was named a 2013-14 Hockey East Academic All-Star, headling 11 UConn women's hockey players on the league's 2013-14 All-Academic team. The conference announced the team on Friday (June 27). Lersch earned one of three defenseman spots on the Academic All-Star Team thanks to a 3.97 GPA during her first year in Storrs.

Also representing UConn on the All-Academic team are Brittany Berisoff (Kelowna, British Columbia), Michela Cava (Thunder Bay, Ontario), Elaine Chuli (Waterford, Ontario), Carly Haskins (Andover, Minn.), Caitlin Hewes (Stillwater, Minn.), Sarah MacDonnell (Quispamsis, New Brunswick), Sarah Moses (New Hamburg, Ontario), Kaitlin Storo (Chanhassen, Minn.), Viivi Vaattovaara (Veikkola, Finland) and Margaret Zimmer (St. Charles, Ill.).

MacDonnell, a 2012-13 Academic All-Star and recently appointed 2014-15 captain, is now a three-time All-Academic honoree and will be eligible to become a Hockey East `Distinguished Scholar' with a nod to the team following her senior season. Chuli, Hewes, Moses and Zimmer have also earned the laurel twice in their careers. Overall, UConn has placed 93 student-athletes on the Hockey East All-Academic Team since joining the league in 2002.
