Two Women's Hockey Players in Canadian National U-22 Camp

OTTAWA, Ont. (August 7, 2006) - Two of the University of Connecticut women's hockey team's incoming freshmen, Cristin Allen (Pickering, Ont.) and Dominique Thibault (L'Orignal, Que.) have been chosen to participate in Canada’s National Under-22 team Development and Selection Camp/Tournament. The camp will be held in Ottawa from August 13-27.

The camp roster has been divided into Red and White teams who will participate in a mini tournament with Finland’s National Women’s Team, which is also in Ottawa to train. At the conclusion of the U-22 Development Camp, a roster of 22 players will be selected to play against the U.S. National Women’s Under-22 Team in a three-game series at the University of Ottawa on August 24th, 25th and 27th.

Additionally, the team's 2006-07 schedule has been announced by head coach Heather Linstad. After an exhibition against the Etobicoke Dolphins, a Canadian junior club, the Huskies will open their 2006-07 season at home against Hockey East foe Vermont on October 6. The contest marks the first time that UConn has ever opened at home with a league contest and it is the first time since the program's inaugural season of 2000-01 that the Huskies have opened their season in Storrs.

The Huskies will play seven of their first eight games at the Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum before taking their longest road trip of the year, geographically, when the team heads to Ohio State for games on Nov. 3rd and 4th. The reverse of this scheduling is true at the end of the season as UConn will play nine of its final 12 contests away from home, most of them in Hockey East play. The Huskies wrap up the regular season at home against Providence College on Feb. 25 and hope to qualify for the Hockey East Tournament, March 3-4, at New Hampshire's Whittemore Center in Durham.
