STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women’s ice hockey team kicks off its 2015-16 schedule with an exhibition match against the Whitby Wolves Saturday, Sept. 26 at 2 p.m. at the Freitas Ice Forum.
The Huskies finished their 2014-15 tour with an 11-18-8 record, going 5-11-5 in Hockey East play. The team advanced to the WHEA semifinals after a dramatic 1-0 overtime win on the road against Maine. UConn was knocked out in the semifinal in a 3-1 loss to Boston College, who were runners-up in the WHEA tournament and advanced to the Frozen Four.
UConn returns two of its top five scorers, including sophomore Leah Lum (Richmond, British Columbia) with 19 points (4g, 15a) and redshirt senior Caitlin Hewes (Stillwater, Minn.) with 17 (3g, 14a). The top three scorers for the Huskies, Sarah MacDonnell, Emily Snodgrass and Kayla Campero, all graduated and are playing professionally in Europe.
Senior goaltender, Elaine Chuli (Waterford, Ont.) also returns to the roster. Chuli played 1500 minutes for UConn last season recording 892 saves for a .924 save percentage and a 2.92 goals against average.
The Whitby Wolves are a women’s junior team in Canada. The Wolves will travel to Storrs on Saturday with a 17 person roster.
The Huskies are scheduled to open their regular season on the road on Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. against Boston University. The home opener is set for Saturday Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. against Union.
