WAKEFIELD, Mass. – After helping UConn to its first 2-0 start to the season since 2008-09, junior goaltender Annie Belanger (Sherbrooke, Quebec) and freshman forward Briana Colangelo (Whitby, Ont.) received Hockey East Player of the Week honors as announced by the league Monday.
Earning both starts against the Dutchwomen, Belanger was named the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week after she made 44 stops in the two-game series against Union and finished with a .957 save percentage.
Colangelo earned the title of Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week for her three-point performance in Friday’s season opener, her very first appearance as a Husky. She assisted back-to-back goals from junior Theresa Knutson (Onalaska, Wis.) and followed it up with her first career goal all of which came in the third period.
The Huskies prep for their home opener against Quinnipiac Friday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum.
