STORRS, Conn. - Nearly a month into the season, the University of Connecticut women's ice hockey team skates at the Freitas Ice Forum for the first time this season.  The Huskies open the home portion of the slate with a 7:00 pm contest against Syracuse on Friday night, followed by a 3:00 pm re-match on Saturday afternoon.

About the Huskies... Connecticut enters its first homestand of the season at 1-5-1 overall and 1-1-0 in Hockey East. Through seven games, the Huskies have had a balanced offensive attack with 12 players recording a point and nine scoring a goal. Freshman Michela Cava leads the team with seven points and four goals. Sophomore Sarah MacDonnell is second on the team with six points, including two goals and four assists, tying for the team lead in assists with senior captain Kelly Horan. In the crease, freshman Elaine Chuli has earned five starts, while junior Sarah Moses, a transfer from Niagara, has started twice. The two have put up similar numbers, combining for a 3.66 goals against average and .894 save percentage.

Last Time Out... The Huskies split the weekend series at Maine last weekend to open the Hockey East portion of the schedule. UConn won in overtime on Saturday, 3-2, and fell on Sunday, 3-2. Sophomore Kayla Campero scored her second of the season just 50 seconds into the extra frame to give the Huskies their first OT win since February 2, 2009. Cava powered the UConn offense through regulation with a goal early in the first period and later forced OT with her second of the day coming with only 36 seconds left in the third. For the second straight season, Connecticut won its first game of the season against Maine. It was the Huskies first road win since February 19, 2011 at Northeastern. In Sunday’s re-match, sophomore Caitlin Hewes scored midway through the first, but the Black Bears answered with three goal before the first intermission. Cava netted her third of the weekend in the third period to bring UConn within one. Moses made 34 saves in a losing effort.
