Game Notes

STORRS, Conn. - Reigning Hockey East Player of the Week, junior Michelle Binning (Oshawa, Ont.) looks to guide the University of Connecticut women's ice hockey team's return to Hockey East action with a pair of games this weekend. Binning earned the weekly award for the second time in her career after becoming the first UConn player to record four points in a single game.

She scored twice and had a pair of assists at Brown on Oct. 24, leading a group of four players to record three or more points in the 8-1 victory. It was the first of two victories for the Huskies last week as they surpassed Union at home on Oct. 26 by a 4-1 margin. In that game, sophomore Monique Weber (Rogers, Minn.) scored both of her goals on the power play.

Last weekend, UConn was 4-for-7 on the power play as sophomore Sami Evelyn (Nepean, Ont.) and freshman Elisabeth Stathopulos (Toronto, Ont.) recorded back-to-back goals against the Bears.

The Huskies are paced by Stathopulos in the scoring column with seven points this season. She has scored three goals and has four assists. Junior Brittany Murphy (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Binning have each contributed six points to the offense thus far this season while Weber has netted a team-best four goals. Senior Cristin Allen (Pickering, Ont.) leads the team with five assists.

For the second time this season, UConn (4-3-1, 0-1-1) heads to New Hampshire and will take on the Wildcats on Saturday at 5 p.m. On Sunday, the Huskies host Providence at 4 p.m. at Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum. There will be a Kids Post-Game Press Conference following the conclusion of the game against the Friars.
