Huskies Host Brown On Tuesday Night

STORRS, Conn. -- The UConn women's hockey team (2-5-4, 0-1-1 WHEA) returns to the Freitas Ice Forum on Tuesday night for a mid-week non-conference tilt with the Brown Bears (1-3-0, 1-1-0 ECAC). The 7 p.m. puck drop will mark the 11th all-time meeting between the Huskies and Bears, with UConn holding a slight 4-3-3 advantage in the series.

Connecticut and Brown met last year in Providence, skating to a 1-1 tie on Nov. 19, 2013. Michela Cava scored the lone UConn goal, a late equalizer in the third period off assists from Emily Snodgrass (Eagan, Minn.) and Kayla Campero (Wallingford, Conn.). Sarah Moses made 26 saves for the Huskies, who out-shot the Bears 35-27 on the day.

The Huskies are coming off an 0-1-1 weekend to start their Hockey East schedule, tying Maine, 3-3, on Oct. 31 before dropping a 6-0 decision at Vermont on Nov. 2. In the draw against Maine, the Huskies came back from one-goal deficits on three separate occasions. Theresa Knutson (Onalaska, Wis.) scored in the first period for UConn, before Campero and Leah Lum (Richmond, British Columbia) each tallied in the second frame. Caitlin Hewes (Stillwater, Minn.) assisted on the second and third markers for Connecticut.

Captain Sarah MacDonnell (Quispamsis, New Brunswick) leads UConn offensive with a 4-3-7 scoring line, tying for the team-high in goal. Snodgrass has also scored four goals and added a pair of assists to total six points, while Lum and Kelly Harris (Canton, Mich.) each have points on the year. Hewes is the top distributor for the Huskies with four assists.

In goal, Elaine Chuli (Waterford, Ontario) holds a 2.95 GAA and a .915 save percentage. Freshman Annie Belanger (Sherbrooke, Quebec) has also made three starts in net and has been excellent, with a 1.58 GAA and a .946 save percentage.

Brown comes into the contest with a 1-3-0 record, most recently topping St. Lawrence on Nov. 1 by a score of 7-4. Janice Yang leads the squad with five points, coming via a 1-4-5 scoring ledger. Sam Donovan leads the team with three goals, and Kaitlyn Keon has recorded four points. Monica Elvin and Julianne Landry have each made two starts in goal, with Elvin holding a 2.95 GAA and a .913 save percentage to lead the way.

Following the contest with Brown, UConn heads back to Hockey East action when it travels to Providence College on Sunday, Nov. 9 for a 2 p.m. puck drop.
