Providence, R.I. – The Women’s Hockey East Association announced Monday that senior goaltender Elaine Chuli (Waterford, Ont.) earned WHEA Defensive Player of the Week honors for the week of November 2, 2015.
The weekly honor is in recognition of Chuli’s 100-save performance in UConn’s two-game series against No. 2 Boston College.
The Huskies fell short of the Eagles 4-0 in both meetings, but Chuli racked up an impressive number of saves both days and set the school record for most saves in a single game. Chuli had tied the previous record of 55 saves last season, but claimed the top spot posting 59 saves in Friday’s game.
Chuli recorded another 41 stops in Saturday’s game for a combined total 100 saves on the weekend against a ranked, conference opponent.
Her 100-save performance moved Chuli to 214 total saves this season for a 2.74 goals against average and a .943 save percentage, which is the second best save percentage in Hockey East.
The Huskies return to the ice on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. where they take on conference newcomer Merrimack at the Freitas Ice Forum.
