Game Notes
STORRS, Conn. -
The University of Connecticut women's ice hockey team faces-off in its fourth Hockey East game of the season at noon on Sunday at Maine. After four players were named to the Women's Hockey East All-Star game, the Huskies look forward to the third of five consecutive conference clashes.
Seniors Cristin Allen (Pickering, Ont.) and Amy Hollstein (Pembroke, Mass.) were joined by teammates junior Jody Sydor (St. Albert, Alta.) and sophomore Monique Weber (Rogers, Minn.) on the conference's all-star roster set to face the Women's National Team later this month. Each have contributed to the Huskies 4-4-2 start and look to boost the team to its first conference victory of the season after starting the year with a 0-2-2 Hockey East record.
Weber along with senior Michelle Binning (Oshawa, Ont.) have scored a team-best four goals while Binning is among three players to lead the team in overall points. Junior Brittany Murphy (Tewksbury, Mass.) and freshman Elisabeth Stathopulos (Toronto, Ont.) join Binning atop the UConn scoring leaders with seven points. Both Murphy and Stathopulos have scored three goals and have four assists through the first 10 games.
Allen leads the team with five assists while two of Hollstein's three goals have been gamewinners this year. Sydor has a total of four points off of three assists and a goal.
Senior Jennie Bellonio (Guildford, Conn.) leads the team with a 1.77 goals-against average and .918 save-percentage while sophomore Alexandra Garcia (Pointe-Claire, Que.) has been a steady force in the crease with a 2.24 GAA and .899 save percentage.
Face-off is set for noon on Sunday at the Alfond Arena.
