Huskies Drop Decision to Northeastern

STORRS, CT (November 10) – The University of Connecticut women’s ice hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision to Northeastern University at the UConn Ice Arena on Sunday afternoon. The Huskies fell to 3-5-0 overall, and captured it first loss of the season in the Hockey Eaat Women’s League (1-1-0), while NU improved to 2-4-1 overall, 1-1-0 in the league. In yesterday’s game between the two squads, UConn came out on top with the 2-1 victory at Matthews Arena in Boston.

The two teams skated evenly through the first period until Northeastern pulled ahead on a goal at the 18:02 mark. Kim Greene slotted the puck from the right side into the back left corner to give the NU Huskies the advantage at the period’s end.

Sara Mahoney (Lynn, MA) evened the score 32-seconds into the middle period on shot from in front of the net. Northeastern went ahead when Rebecca Paul one-timed a rebounded shot from left side of the net at the 9:33 mark. Northeastern widened the gap in the first minute of the third period on Greene’s second goal and completed the day’s scoring.

Connecticut’s Shannon Murphy (Mapleville, RI) had 18 saves in the loss, while Chanda Gunn had 31 stops. Despite the loss, UConn out shot Northeastern, 32-21.

UConn will be on the road next weekend. The Huskies will take to the ice against Findlay on Saturday, November 16 at 2:00 pm, and then will travel to Ohio State on Sunday at 2:00 pm.
