Women's Hockey Inks Four To NLIs In Early Signing Period

Chris MacKenzie and the Huskies welcome four that will join the squad next season

STORRS, Conn. - Head coach Chris MacKenzie and the UConn women's hockey team has announced the signing of four future student-athletes to national letters of intent during the early signing period. The Huskies will welcome two defensemen and two forwards to the fray as incoming freshman for the 2015-16 season.

"Coach Casey Handrahan and Coach Jaclyn Hawkins have done a great job of recruiting quality student-athletes to UConn.  We are excited to add four players that will complement the core of returners next season.  We are happy to welcome them to the UConn Family." said MacKenzie on the class.

Jaime Fox, Rebecca Lindblad, Kayla Mee and Jordyn Zacaharias highlight MacKenzie's early signing class, with two defensemen and two forwards who will each bring a unique skillset to Storrs. See below for full bios on each of the new Huskies.

Jaime Fox | Markham, Ontario | Whitby Jr. Wolves | 5'10 | D | L

Before UConn:  Skates with the Whitby Jr. Wolves in PWHL...helped Whitby to a league championship in 2013-14...was a final selection at Team Ontario U18 camp...participated in the Team Canada U18 Strength and Conditioning Camp...thus far this season for Whitby, has skated in 31 games with a 2-15-17 scoring line and a +25 rating... honor roll student at Unionville High School in Unionville, Ontario.



Personal: Jaime Anne Fox...born June 17, 1997...daughter of Dave and Julie Fox...has two young sisters, Dani and Jayden...plans to major in accounting at UConn.

MacKenzie on Fox:  "Jaime is a smart two-way defenseman.  She sees the ice well and makes great decisions on the offensive blue line."


Rebecca Lindblad | Winnetka, Ill. | Chicago Young Americans U19 | 5'9 | F | L

Before UConn: A member of the Chicago Young Americans U19 squad in the HPHL...helped CYA U19 to a third place finish at nationals in 2011...a three-time Illinois Girls Hockey All-State selection...member of the USA Hockey National Development Camp in 2013 and 2014...won the HPHL Academic Achievement Award...also a three-time All-Conference golfer at New Trier High Shool in Winnetka, Ill. and a state champion in golf in 2012.

Personal: Rebecca Colwell Lindblad...born Feb. 20, 1997...daughter of Chris and Robyn Lindblad...has an older brother, Jack, and a twin sister, Jen...undecided on major at UConn.

MacKenzie on Lindblad: "Becca is an intense competitor who plays every shift consistently hard.  She will be tough to play against."

Kayla Mee | Stonewall, Manitoba | Shaftesbury Prep | 5'11 | D | L

Before UConn: Plays for the Shaftesbury Titans in Winnipeg,  former home of current Huskies Cydnee Cook, Justine Fredette and Jessica Stott...captains Shaftesbury in 2014-15...holds the program record for games played with 121 to date and has a career scoring line of 24-47-71 and a +66 rating in three seasons with Shaftesbury...also a member of Team Manitoba 2014 and 2015...helped Shaftesbury win several tournament and showcase honor roll student since grade five.

Personal: Kayla Deanne Mee...born May 28, 1997...daughter of Terry and Denise Mee...has an older brother, Tyler...plans to major in pharmacy at UConn.

MacKenzie on Mee: "Kayla is a smart two way player who has a ton of potential.  Her size and skill level will be an asset on our blue line."

Jordyn Zacharias | Winnipeg, Manitoba | Winnipeg Avros | 5'4 | F | L

Before UConn: Serves as an assistant captain for the Winnipeg Avros of the MFMHL...leads the Avros with 18 goals, 27 points and +21 rating through 27 games of the 2014-15 winter season...2015 member of Team Manitoba...was the team MVP of Stoney Creek U17 in 2013...played with the St. Mary's Academy Prep Team from 2012-14, scoring 54 points in 46 games as a junior...three-time honor roll member at St. Mary's Academy.

Personal: Jordyn Diana Zacharias...born July 21, 1997...daughter of Timothy and Corinne Zacharias...has an older brother, Darian...plans to major in exercise science at UConn.

MacKenzie on Zacharias: "Jordyn has produced offensively at every level during her prep career. We expect that to continue here at UConn."
