WAKEFIELD, Mass. (December 12) - Senior Kaitlyn Shain (Calgary, Alberta) was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. It is the third Defensive Player of the Week honor on the season for Shain, who was also named Goaltender of the Month for October.

The honor comes on the heels of a 106 save week for the senior, as Shain stopped 27 shots in a tough, 1-0, UConn loss to Brown on Tuesday evening. She had 38 saves in the Huskies 3-1 loss to No. 9 Harvard on Friday to close out team play for the week.

On Sunday, Shain played all 60 minutes in goal for the Hockey East All-Star Team against the U.S. National Team. She had 41 saves while giving up five goals in the 5-2 loss and was named the Hockey East Player of the Week. Shain stopped all 11 of the U.S. Team's shots in the first period to keep the Hockey East's at 2-0 lead to close out the period.

The next contest for UConn will be Jan. 1, when the Huskies travel to Vermont to take on the Catamounts. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
