STORRS, Conn. – UConn lacrosse improved to 4-0 on the season with an 11-9 win over New Hampshire in Wednesday’s home opener. This marks the Huskies best start to the season since 2005 when the team went 4-0 to open the campaign and finished with a 12-5 mark.
In Wednesday’s home opener, UConn outshot the Wildcats 28-22 and won 13-9 draw controls. The two squads registered a total of 18 saves as losing keeper Kathleen O’Keefe had 13 saves, while freshman Shannon Nee improved to 4-0 after five saves.
Connecticut, who had eight Huskies score in the win, was led by freshman Carly Palmucci who tallied six points on two goals and four assists, while junior Lauren Kahn finished with four points on two goals and two assists.
The Huskies held the lead the majority of the contest but UNH threatened that advantage late in the second half when the Wildcats went on a 4-0 run to pull within one leaving UConn with a 10-9 lead with 10:21 remaining in regulation.
Freshman Ally Fazio secured the Husky victory with 2:36 left on a pass from Kahn to set the final score at 11-9.
Connecticut hits the road for an intrastate match against Fairfield on Saturday, March 9, at noon. The Huskies are 6-4 all-time against Fairfield and won their 2012 meeting, 13-10.
