STORRS, Conn. - Sophomores Lauren Kahn and Kacey Pippitt each added two goals but No. 2 Syracuse was too much for the Huskies today as Connecticut fell, 20-8, in the BIG EAST opener for both teams at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex in Storrs. UConn dropped to 6-2, 1-1 BIG EAST while Syracuse improved to 5-2, 1-0 BIG EAST.
Syracuse attack Alyssa Murray put home seven goals with midfielder Katie Webster notching five for the Orange.
Connecticut took a 1-0 lead off the stick of Kahn at 29:04 for its first and only lead of the day before the Orange exploded for seven straight goals in a 5:45 stretch.
Senior Kiersten Tupper added a goal at 17:03 to make it 7-2 and Lauren Kahn finished her second of the half with 2:45 remaining to put the score at 9-3 in favor of Syracuse. The six-goal deficit was as close as the Huskies would get the rest of the way.
The Orange scored four of the first five goals in the second half to go ahead, 14-4, before Kacey Pippitt notched a pair for the Huskies to close the gap to 14-6 at 17:25.
Syracuse went on to score six goals compared to two from UConn in the last 12:35 for the final 20-8 score.
Connecticut will hit the road to face No. 15 Georgetown in Washington, D.C. on Friday, March 30 at 4 p.m.
