UConn Drops 17-7 Decision to No. 4 Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The UConn women's lacrosse team (7-2) fell to No. 4 Syracuse (9-3) 17-7 Tuesday in the Carrier Dome.

Senior goalkeeper Shannon Nee (Lancaster, Pa.) put up a stellar performance in net, stopping 10 crucial shots in 60 minutes of play.

UConn kept it close at the start. After being down 1-0, junior Jacqueline Jordan (Los Gatos, Calif.) tied up the score after she capitalized on a free position.

Freshman Brooke Jensen (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) scored another equalizer for the Huskies to make it 2-2 with 19:23 to play in the first half, which marks her third goal in her inaugural season as a Husky.

After SU took a two-goal lead to go up 4-2, sophomore Grace Nolan (Marcellus, N.Y.) cut the lead after she leapt up and buried an assist off a free position shot by classmate Kelsey Catalano (Stony Brook, N.Y.).

SU dominated the remainder of the first half, scoring eight unanswered goals to take a 12-3 lead going into halftime.

The Orange added three goals to its tally in the first ten minutes of the second half, all of which were scored off free position shots.

With over 30 minutes gone by without a goal for UConn, freshman Cait Leary (Suffern, N.Y.) scored her first career goal as a Husky to break UConn's scoring drought and make it 15-4 with 12:32 left on the clock.

UConn scored three goals in the last eight minutes, the first from Junior Molly O'Reilly (South Salem, N.Y.), her first of the season. Seniors Victoria Thompson (Ellicott City, Md.) and Katherine Finkelston (Leonardtown, Md.) closed out the scoring to leave the final score at 17-7 in favor of the Orange.




The Huskies resume conference play Saturday, April 2 at 12 p.m. when they host Cincinnati at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.
