STORRS, Conn. - Senior M.E. Lapham tied the UConn scoring record with her 154th career goal but the Huskies fell, 14-5, at Rutgers today. With the loss, UConn dropped its record to 6-4 (0-3 BIG EAST). Rutgers improved to 6-4 (1-1 BIG EAST). Rutgers outscored Connecticut 10-1 in the opening 30 minutes.
Lapham put home three goals for 154 on her career. She now has 33 on the season.
A slow first half doomed the Huskies as the Scarlet Knights took a 10-1 lead. The two squads played an even 4-4 second half.
Lapham made it 4-1 at 15:38 with her first goal of the day. Rutgers tallied six straight to end the half ahead, 10-1.
The second half saw UConn outshoot Rutgers, 17-9. The Huskies scored the opener of the second half off the stick of Lapham, followed by a goal from Rutgers at 17:23.
Connecticut continued to pressure, but couldn't find the second goal until 11:09 remaining in the final half with Lauren Kahn notching her 19th of the season.
Lapham and Mackenzie Rainone added tallies in the final three minutes.
Connecticut will continue its three-game road trip at Columbia on Saturday, April 7 at 1 p.m. in New York, N.Y.
