STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's lacrosse squad extended its winning streak to three games with a 13-6 victory over Villanova today at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex in Storrs. UConn improved to 10-5 (3-4 BIG EAST) while Villanova dropped to 4-11 (2-5 BIG EAST). Senior attack M.E. Lapham notched her 200th point in a Connecticut uniform today.
Kacey Pippitt led the way offensively, setting career highs with four goals, two assists and six points. Lapham tallied three goals and an assist for a four-point effort. Brittney Testa made six saves to earn the victory for the Huskies. Megan Lally had a strong defensive game with three caused turnovers and two groundballs.
It was a tightly contested game in the opening 9:30 of play with Villanova going ahead, 3-2, with 10:34 remaining in the first half. The Huskies made their run with four-straight tallies to end the half and never looked back, going ahead, 6-3.
Villanova opened the second half with a goal at 2:48 but UConn responded with goals from Pippitt and Taylor Gross to go ahead 8-4. The Wildcats added a fifth at 17:57 but the Huskies went on another run, notching five-straight, including Lapham's 200th point at 21:18, to put the game out of reach at 13-5.
Villanova added a late goal with 45 seconds left but it was too late for a comeback.
Connecticut will end the season against No. 14 Loyola in Storrs at 1 p.m. on Sunday. UConn will honor the five seniors; M.E. Lapham, Kiersten Tupper, Megan Lally, Stephanie Norton and Colleen DeRonda prior to the contest.
