Women's Lacrosse Falls To No. 3 Georgetown

    Washington, DC- The University of Connecticut women's lacrosse team dropped its final BIG EAST game to host No. 3 Georgetown, 19-4, in Washington, DC today. The Huskies drop to 3-12 overall and finish their BIG EAST schedule 0-6. The Hoyas clinch the BIG EAST crown by virtue of a undefeated 6-0 record in league play and are 13-2 overall.

    The Hoyas opened the game with seven straight goals with two apiece from Erin Elbe and Wick Stanwick. Junior Pam Lowie (Cortland, NY) got the Huskies on the board at 9:34 for UConn's only first half goal. Georgetown scored five more times to close the half with another pair of goals from Stanwick.

    Georgetown opened the second stanza with four straight scores, two from Elizabeth Ryan before UConn's Heather Bliss (Tully, NY) countered at the 21:51 mark. Georgetown answered with another goal at 18:10. Lowie scored her second goal of the game at 16:28. The two teams then traded goals as Connecticut's Tanya Kotowicz (Hicksville, NY) concluding the Huskies scoring effort at 6:46. The Hoyas would score the final goal of the contest at 2:18. UConn senior Abby Morgan (West Chester, PA) had two assists on the day.

    UConn's April Pollock had seven stops in goal while Georgetown's Bowen Holden and Chandler Vicchio split time in goal. Holden gave up one goal while making four saves and Vicchio gave up three goals and had three saves.

    The Huskies will play their final home game of the 2001 season on Saturday, May 5 when they host Vanderbilt at 1:00 p.m.
